Unity Tutorial

For those that are not familiar with Unity, this Lynda tutorial is an excellent introduction.

We are going to be using Unity in class next week so make sure that you have started to get comfortable with the software by then.

Week 3 Homework

In the groups you formed in class, pick a location in or around MAGNET (try not to make it more than a couple minutes away). You will be creating a pitch for an AR story that either augments or subverts a story you find already in the place, or creates a story out of elements that you find there.

Document the place thoroughly with photos and videos. Create a storyboard describing the project you want to create. Either sketch or use Photoshop to depict what your augments will look like and how they will work. Think about different visual and audio elements you could add. Consider props that you could provide to also add to the experience. Remember to consider what role your user plays in the story, and what role their AR device will play as well.

Remember that you will actually be creating this experience in Unity as your next assignment. Consider what you feel capable of doing in Unity in 2 weeks and try to avoid exceeding that in your pitch. The kind of AR we will be using for this next assignment is marker-based, similar to Blippar, so think about what you can use as markers while you're creating your pitch.


Do not follow the syllabus for this week's homework. I've made a decision to go off syllabus so do not reference that for this week's homework. I'll be updating it before we next meet and get it in sync with the new schedule.

Week 2 Homework

Find an example of indexical storytelling. Movies, plays, TV shows, games, anything is acceptable. Be ready to give a short (2-3 minute) presentation on the piece and break it down for the rest of the class next week.

While sequences of images are acceptable (particularly in the form of comic books) a single image must contain quite a lot of indexes to analyze in order to be considered acceptable. I recommend checking with me in advance if you want to do a single image for this assignment.

Week 1 Assignment : Your Enemy_Yunho Choi

Japanese animations have been always resonating my heart...

So I choose the most recent and famous movie animation Your Name.

Basically this movie is a story about an mysterious meeting process between a boy and girl who lives in different world and I wanted to make a little but significant change and imagined they are enemy each other. Next, I recalled one of the best killing animation Evangelion and put their theme sound for expressing enemy and battle field. Unfortunately I couldn't add the real Evangelion 3D model but it was OK. Finally, I added a webpage that tells you about your real enemy.

Narrative AR Week01 Homework Gordon

One day, I found a book - "How to Become a Video Game Artist". It looks very interesting!

I found a ton of ideas and tips to be a game artist in 3D.

I started to read this book.

After I finished this book, I'm able to create a 3D zombie that looks alive!

Homework 1

Homework 1

Using Blippar, augment a book cover, poster, advertisement, or some other piece of physical media to change or subvert the story that it is telling. Think about what images, sounds, videos, or other things you can use to augment your media, as well as how they can be arranged and the order they are presented and how they appear.

Make sure to document your homework and post it to your page on the blog. Take pictures and videos of your augment in action. Show us both what your media looks like unaugmented, and with the augments on it. I recommend asking a friend to help you record or finding a tripod for a camera or phone. That will make it much easier to take steady photos and videos while using another phone to look at the augment.

Bring whatever you augmented into class next week so we can see it in action. If you are using any kind of audio, make sure to bring headphones so that other people can listen to it.

In addition to creating you augment you will need to also read and watch a few things. I recommend doing these before creating your assignment as they will help you start to frame your thinking about narrative and AR.

I woke up and and felt completely at a loss

I looked out my window and found myself in a city that I didn't recognize

My clock was even telling me I was in 3 different cities!! I wondered what world I lived in..

When I was on my way holding a coffee cup and my laptop at the same time, I wanted to find a safe place to place the coffee. So I started to find...

Week 1 - Lola

Oh it is so nice to take a break and go outside for a little while

 So much people walking in the park going to work getting the morning coffee, rushing to the subway...

The sun is shinning through the leaves of the park, it seems like they are enjoying their final moments together before autum comes.

The leafs dance with the wind and they seem to have so iridiscent property to them. What is that smell?

Gordon - AR Class Story Exercise

One day, I finished my class at Game Center and prepared for home.

I went out the door of Magnent and waiting for the elevator.

The elevator came and slowly opened the doors.

I stepped into the elevator, but shortly it changed the internal light to a colorful scheme.

Suddenly, the light was gone to black. I lost my consciousness and couldn't remember what was happened.

When I waked up, I became a part of Lego and I can't move my body.

The excuse of being late today morning.

I woke up and realized that I haven't seen this place before. I turned on the switch.


White plain wall was divided two and a man told me to come in.


He game me a cup of coffee.

I immediately felt dizzy.


I woke up again and it seemed like I was in a jungle.


I realized I became so small! Everything were huge!


There was a map and indicated one place.


I found and there was a golden ball. I stepped on it.


I grew up again! and now I can attend the class! Yay
