ASSIGNMENT:
Recreate a memory of yours in ARKit. Think how you can construct a model representation of your memory that encourages users to move and change their view.
Memory:
I occasionally recall this memory of watching Pokemon 3: The Movie/ Spell of the Unown when I was a child. In the movie, these alphabet-esque Pokemon, called the Unnown, swirl around characters as they cast their spell.
Project:
For this assignment, I wanted to bring my memories of those swarming Pokemon to life. In this AR Experience, using exclusively ARKit and SceneKit, I wanted to crating a circular, swarming experience of numbers around the user. While in the experience, the user is prompted to find the number 13, my lucky number. I did this to learn a bit about how interaction might work in AR Kit and also to give the user a reason to move around the scene.
View Controller:
The View Controller has an ARSCNView and a Label that prompts the user to find my lucky number. This will change to found once the user finds the 13th node.
ViewController.swift:
The ViewController.swift file focuses on both the creation of the multiple text objects and listening for user touches.
* I also included a function that shows ARKit Feature Points that helps me understand what the camera in ARKit sees.

ASSIGNMENT:
MIDTERM:
Reify NY
A collaboration with Alex Fast.
I am really interested in exploring a few different things with augmented space.
1. How do you augment a space without relying on visuals.
2. How can you use augmented interfaces to focus the user's attention on the physical space and their place in it.
Concept:
Reify NY is an augmented listening tour of the Metrotech Center in Brooklyn. Walking Tour Apps aren't new. However, one that incorporates geo-location based audio cures with augmented visuals, can be.
The stops on this particular proof of concept will be:
1. Introduction (You are here)
2. Lenape Native Americans
3. Bridge Street AME Church
4. Construction in Metrotech Center
5. Public Art at Brooklyn Metrotech

Design Documentation:
For the markers, I wanted a unified theme with subtle differences to cue the different Vuforia animations. I landed on a logo of New York City, where the windows of the buildings would change.
Technical Documentation:
Animations
For the Vuforia animations, we wanted to play with different styles. Alex's blog has testing documentation posted here.
We really wanted to play with the different types of assets used in the animations. Alex explored Free 3D assets in the Unity Asset Store, while I primarily focused on found images of the actual spaces.

In-Class User Testing:
After in class user testing, we are excited to explore next steps. Even though this class project is finished. It would be interesting to explore other areas in Brooklyn and across NYC using an augmented walking tour.
People really seemed to like our art diorama, detailing the locations of art projects that occurred at MetroTech Center. Users resonated with the found images, using them as a supplemental guide to visualize the past.
Next Steps would include:
1. Potentially including a website to link to from the various animations for more information.
2. More detailed/ First person narratives of the history discussed in the walking tour.

Get a working Vuforia Example.
I decided to augment a business flyer for an event at DreamHack ATL, that I participated in this summer.

ASSIGNMENT:
Find an example of indexical storytelling. Movies, Plays, TV Shows, Games, anything is acceptable. Be ready to present on the piece and break it down for the rest of the class next week.
ANALYSIS:
As a kid, I remember helping my brother find an easter egg in Black Ops. We had just come across an old computer with a terminal open. My brother and his friend indulged the terminal prompts for a few minutes, waiting for the bonus game to begin, before giving up. But, I quickly realized that the text we were reading was the game.
Zork, and text-based adventures like it, remain my favorite type of game to this day. And it also happens that it is a great example of indexical storytelling.
As is the nature of 1980s non-AI text based adventures, there is limited conversation in Zork (there are only so many if-statements a person can write). Instead, the protagonist navigates the world learning from and interacting with the various items and sceneries that they see.
There is an open field, maybe go north?
There is a house, maybe go inside?
There is a lantern, maybe turn it on?

ASSIGNMENT:
Make a blippAR application.
CONCEPT:
Let's bring advertisements to one's personal life. We see ads on TV, on the street, on our cellphone, why not on our personal pictures, too?
The markers used were found on the street as negatives, then developed, then given to two classmates as an assignment for another class, then handed them to me.
Once you have added their codes into Blippar, you'll see 1950s advertisements commenting on the relationships within the photos.
CODES:
597128
597120

How did they survive their 40 year marriage?
Secret behind their very prompt divorce?
Where are these two in a year's time?

Make a short, first person story using things you find in and around MAGNET to represent some kind of future for AR technology.
It’s 10:30 and Jaycee still hasn’t woken up for her 11 o’clock class.
She is ignoring the first round of alarms.
Guess we will have to try some drastic measures.
Good. She is up, time to start breakfast.
Girl, you look a hot mess.
Based on the weather, here are the looks I recommend for today:
Also, here is your daily itinerary.
You haven’t meal prepped. No worries, I’ve ordered lunch from your favorite restaurant.
And you spent too long getting ready. Don’t worry I’ll call you a Lyft.
